1.0 Rules

1.1

The race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 -2012 (RRS)


1.2

The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Part 2, Category 3 shall apply.

a) Multihulls shall comply with the above plus NZMYC Passage Dinghy Requirements

b) Monohulls shall comply with the above with either life raft or dinghy as specified in that yacht's Safety Certificate

c) It is a requirement of the above Safety Regulations for each boat to have a Marine Radio Transmitter and Receiver (55 channel VHF) & one hand held waterproof multi channel VHF radio

d) Yachts must have on board a registered 406 EPIRB or 406 PLB. Failure to do so automatically renders their existing safety certificate invalid

The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea between the hours of Official Sunset and Sunrise shall apply.


1.4

All boats shall display the supplied divisional pennant from the backstay from the time of arriving at the start area until finished.


1.5

Self-steering devices are permitted for two-handed entrants only, boats using self-steering devices will not be eligible for placing and prizes in the fully-crewed divisions One - Eight.


1.6

All forms of navigational aids, GPS, Sat-Nav, weather facsimiles, radar etc are permitted. GPS and Sat-Nav should be regarded as navigational aids not navigational systems.


1.7

Rule 41. Competitors may communicate with the race publicity team and to pre-agreed media. This will not constitute outside assistance.


1.8

Rule 51 “Movable Ballast” is changed so that boats shall be nominated with “Non-movable Ballast” or “A Canting Keel” or “Water Ballast Tanks”. A boat nominated with non-movable ballast and a boat with a lifting keel shall comply with rule 51 as written in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012. Lifting keels shall be locked in the down position and may not be moved whilst racing. Rule 51 and 52 are modified to allow boats with movable/variable ballast systems to compete. Keel boats must comply with ISAF Offshore Special Regulations Appendix K (www.sailing.org) and Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Clause 6.1(k) and 6.2(k) (www.yachtingnz.org.nz).


1.9

RRS 52 shall not apply.


1.10

A boat shall not discharge trash in the water.


1.11

Yachts may be required to carry a GPS transponder if requested by the organising authority.
