21/09/2009
Roy Dickson, George Hendy, Brian Trubovich and Ross Masters are confirmed as the panel of four guest speakers that will join Cameron Thorpe in presenting an informative session about getting the best result on the race to Russell.
Roy Dickson – a fixture of New Zealand yachting who in a lifetime of sailing has accumulated numerous sailing titles. Roy was part of the crew led by Chris Bouzaid that won the One Ton Cup in German in 1969, and first put New Zealand on the world racing map. He is Chris Dickson’s father, and owner of the Stewart 34, Playbuoy, on which he took out line honours in his division of the 2008 HSBC Premier Coastal Classic. Roy is also very well known for his support and encouragement of our top youth sailors. George Hendy - George Hendy is a professional yachtsman who has undertaken many tens of thousands of miles of racing, including nine Kenwood Cups, four Fastnet Races, four Admirals Cups, a leg in the Whitbread Around the World Race, ten races to the Pacific Islands, and five Sydney-Hobarts. George is well known in the local circuit and is boat manager for the new 52 footer under construction for Jim Farmer and due to make its debut race the HSBC Premier Coastal Classic.
Brian Trubovich – Well known tactician, skipper and owner of the Ross 1066 Higher Ground, and one of the country’s most liked and experienced coastal and inshore sailors. ‘Trubi’s’ insight into any race will in particular give those with a sports style keelboat, an edge on race day. Ross Masters – An eminently capable local sailor and boat owner who has raced since a young age, Ross has accumulated many thousands of racing miles, including international regattas, the Round North Island Two Handed, and the Sydney-Hobart in 2008, and possesses terrific knowledge of the Auckland to Russell racecourse. To be held 6pm, Monday 12 October 2009, L1, Yachting New Zealand, 85 Westhaven Drive. Numbers are limited - please RSVP with your name, boat name and email address, before Monday 5 October to ccinfo@coastalclassic.co.nz or phone 09 300 6200.
