Top tips for the PredictWind Tracker

PredictWind are renowned as the world leader in wind forecasting, and they are the only company in the world that runs their own global weather model at 50km resolution with 2 sources, which is then further refined down to 8km and 1km resolution giving greater accuracy over the course area.

Not only are we fortunate to benefit from their forecasting insights, but we are privelaged to have their services for the live tracking of the race again in 2019.

The PredictWind Tracker allows you to track your position and movement with GPS directly from your smartphone using highly compressed mobile data (approx 1MB per race). You can track and review your race or share your position with family and friends.

Top Tips for succesful tracking:

- Download the app, and test the tracker well before race day. Thats the last thing you want to be worrying about on race day!!

- Charge your device before the race, and take a charger with you (or a 2nd device)

- Turn off wifi and bluetooth to conserve power

- Close all programmes or apps that are running in the background

The full instructions for competitors to use the tracker can be found online www.predictwind.com/tracker/

On race day, specators can watch the tracking live online www.coastalclassic.co.nz and through the PIC Coastal Classic App.

As a long-term partner of the PIC Coastal Classic, PredictWind's forecast presentation in the week leading up to the race is your best chance to talk through the weather with an expert. Nick Olson of PredictWind will be presenting at the Race Clinic on Monday 21 October, 7pm at RNZYS.
