COASTAL PASSAGE RECORD

Official information, rules and how to challenge the Coastal Classic course record

NZMYC is proud to introduce the Coastal Classic Passage Record — an official recognition of the fastest elapsed times sailed on the Coastal Classic course. These records may be set either during the annual race or on an individual attempt. If you believe your boat can go faster, we invite you to challenge the record and have your achievement verified.

Course Overview

  • 119 nautical miles from Devonport/Orakei to Russell Wharf

  • Leave Little Barrier, The Poor Knights, and the Sugar Loaf Group to starboard

  • Respect the Bay of Islands Marine Mammal Sanctuary safe zones

Record Recognised

  • Fastest elapsed time (overall)

  • Monohull & multihull records by size and crew number

  • Latsaoc: Russell to Auckland passage

Timing & Verification

  • Records require GPS tracking + live position tracking

  • Fastest time stands until beaten

  • Ratification handled by NZMYC committee

Rules & Safety

  • Natural forces only for propulsion

  • Category 3 YNZ Safety Certificate required

  • Lifejackets and safety gear must be used as prescribed

  • No outside assistance except in emergencies

  • Minimal application fees

  • Skipper responsible for yacht and crew safety

  • Sailing is undertaken entirely at your own risk

How to enter

  • Notify NZMYC at least 48 hours prior: info@multihull.org.nz

  • Include: estimated departure, Cat 3 certificate, and crew details
