Flexible entry options for cruisers
The PIC Coastal Classic Rally is all about the journey — this year, cruisers who prefer not to race can easily join from various starting points and still be part of the excitement. Invite friends, family, colleagues, and kids to enjoy a fun, relaxed weekend on the water and celebrate together in Russell.
Option 1: Race Rally
Start from Auckland – Friday 24 October
Take part alongside the race fleet but cruise at your own pace — no pressure to
compete.
How it works:

Start Friday morning before the official race start (start time and other info found
in Sailing Instructions) -
Finish in Russell for the afterparty and prizegiving
Perfect for soaking up the atmosphere without the competitive stress.

Option 2: Two-Day Rally via Marsden Cove
Start Thursday 23 October
A relaxed, social cruise with an overnight stop — start from Auckland or your home
port.
How it works:

Depart Auckland Thursday, or from your home port at a suitable
declared time -
Stop overnight at Marsden Cove (berth provided)

Enjoy dinner or drinks at Marsden Cove (own cost) with other rally participants

Restart from Marsden Cove Friday morning to join the race fleet
heading to Russell
A great way to break the journey and connect with fellow cruisers.
The Rules

All boats with Category 3 are eligible

PHRF not required

Engine use allowed (5 hrs conditions apply – see NOR)

Spinnakers optional

Tracker must be enabled for fleet visibility and safety purposes

Access to all Russell social events

You may not need specific insurance. Check your policy wording or ask your broker or insurer about whether its required to take part
